Umrah Travel Guide for Families: Tips for Elderly, Children & Group Travelers
6 min read

Travelling with parents or small children changes every decision — hotel choice, prayer timing, and how you move through the Haram. Here is how to plan it well.
Choose Distance Over Luxury
For elderly parents, a plain 3-star hotel 150 metres from the Haram beats a 5-star hotel a kilometre away. Every prayer means a return walk — five times a day, that difference decides whether the trip is joyful or exhausting.
Wheelchairs and Mobility
Manual wheelchairs are free at Haram gates; pushers charge a negotiated fee. Electric carts run on the first floor and roof Mataf for a fixed rate. Book airport wheelchair assistance with the airline at least 48 hours before the flight.
Travelling with Children
Bring a lightweight stroller, snacks, and a card in the child's pocket with your Saudi mobile number and hotel name. Split rites — one parent performs Tawaf while the other waits — rather than exhausting the whole family at once.
Group Coordination
Agree on a single, unmistakable meeting point such as a numbered Haram gate. Save your group leader's number on every phone, use a WhatsApp group with live location, and never rely on spotting each other in a crowd of thousands.
Room and Meal Planning
Quad rooms save money but reduce rest quality for elderly pilgrims. Consider one double room for parents and a quad for the younger members. Hotels with breakfast included save both time and money near the Haram.
